I’m Josh Hicks, a junior from Owensboro, Kentucky, majoring in mechanical engineering.
Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s disease has had a major impact on all members of my family ever since my grandmother was diagnosed. The emotional challenges brought upon by this disease effect everyone with a personal connection to the sufferer and is why I have decided to participate in a project that will contribute to ending the disease responsible. Little can be done for the people suffering from the disease and the treatment has not changed since the first case over a hundred years ago. Research is key in finding more information about Alzheimer’s because it is the only top ten leading cause of death with no way to prevent, cure, or even slow its progression. As a result, when someone has Alzheimer’s you often feel as though there is not much you can do for them. Bike4Alz gives me a way to actively help my grandmother as well as others that have and may have Alzheimer’s one day.
